Do a Goal Review

Do a Goal Review

If you didn’t set goals last month, it’s time to set some goals and if you did set goals, it’s time to do a goal review.

Last month we set goals (if you missed it check out the goal setting practice here) and as we enter a new month it’s a good time to review the goals we set, see if they still feel aligned and if you’ve struggled with motivation or fallen off the wagon it’s a good opportunity to ask yourself are they really intrinsic.

Maybe you smashed those goals and its time to celebrate yourself, maybe you made a good start and you need to keep doing what you are doing, or maybe you tried your best but you are not moving in the right direction. Stop and take stock of what you have achieved and what you want to set out to do in the next month.

I set myself the challenge to walk 200km in January and I smashed it at 206km total, so now I am realigning my goal for Feburary to cover 200km again running and walking. I also am committing to do a positive psychology practice each day and share it with you.

In terms of the challenges I faced meeting those goals, I got COVID towards the end of January and so I took a break from sharing the practices but I still did something for my wellbeing each day so I’m proud of that. In my goal review, I will reflect on how can I make it easy to share practices even if I’m unwell or have something else unexpected come up.

Goal Review Practice

Think about, talk about or journal about what went well across the last month and what obstacles came up as you worked towards your goals. What will you continue to do and what will you need to do differently? Explore if that goal is still important to you or if you want to change or tweak it a bit (use the goal setting guidelines to help with this).

The following worksheets are powerful tools to promote the self-awareness you need. They use the acronym DARN as a helpful prompt structure to self-coach yourself around your goals
